FAQ

Why does the Oregon Mountain Bike series not include all MTB races in Oregon?

Race promoters were given the opportunity to be apart of this series; some have opted not to be apart of the series.

Why is the point system different than OBRA BAR and from years past?

This year we are testing a new point system that will hopefully encourage people to upgrade to the categories they belong in. Also it will hopefully not penalize those who chose to upgrade later in the season but at the same time not give them an advantage to staying in a category until the last race or two. Lastly, if you place greater than 15th in previous years, you would not get any points, this new system rewards everyone for finishing.

When I upgrade, do I keep my points?

Yes, the points you have will stay with you all season. This is one reason for that the points increase with each category.

Why do only 7 of 9 races count to the overall series?

Not every one can show up to 9 races. The series recognizes that people have families, work and other constraints. Who is the better racers; the person that took 2nd in 9 races or the one that took 1st in 7?

Why does it take 5 races to qualify for the series?

The promoters want to encourage people to race in the series; it benefits them and it benefit MTB racing.

Do I have to race all 5 races to compete in races that participate in the series?

No, anyone can do just one race if they like.

Can anyone race at the Finals and/or the State Championship races?

Yes, these are open to everyone who wants to race these races. There are no qualifications to these races.

Why are there fewer classes this year than pervious years?

Mountain biking has more categories and classes that Cyclocross, Track or Road racing in Oregon. Many of these classes hardly have enough people to contain a field for the season let alone one race. Having too many classes also seems to increase the amount of sandbagging. Lastly, the more classes there are the more expensive it is for the promoter to put on a race, at some point in time that cost will be passed on to the racer.

Why is there no Expert Junior class?

This is a class that is on the borderline of having enough people for a class. Many of these juniors are just as fast if not faster than the Expert Open class so they have been combine to increase competition in both classes. In other disciplines in Oregon the in one or two junior field, MTB still has three (Beg Junior 14 and under, Beg Junior 14 – 18, and Sport Junior 18 and under).
