Tuesday Night PIR 08.18.09

A while back we recieved a call asking us if we were going to be taking photos are any of the PIR road races.  Every year we like to hit a few of the races but this year it just had not worked out.  Jerry said that he wanted to make sure that we would be at PIR one of the times he was racing.  You see, last year Jerry was hit by a car and the doctor had told him that the destruction to his leg was so much that he would not be racing again.  Like most avid racers, those words were enough to drive Jerry to prove the doctor wrong.  A year later, Jerry is racing and he wanted proof to send to his doctor not really to say "you were wrong" but to say "thank you for the great work".

You can find all of our photos from the night here or click on the jump for a slideshow of highlights.

Portland's Racing Mountain Bike Short Track (08.03.09)

Another great season of short track mountain bike racing has come to an end.  Okay, there are some more races, just no more at PIR.  If you are interested in more short track racing, go check out the Source Natural Foods Salem Mountain Bike Short Track Series.  Thanks to Kris and crew for putting on some great racing and I look forward to seeing you all at cross.  For now, click on the jump to see a slideshow of highlights or you can see all of our photos here.  If you purchase 4 or more photos for the short track series you will get 25% off your entire order, excluding PLYWERKS products.

Portland's Racing Mountain Bike Short Track (07.20.09)

After two weeks of missing the short track races due to illness I was itching to get back out to PIR.  This week I choose to shoot the night using my Lensbaby 3G.  For those that don't know, this lens creates a spot focus effect then blurs the image out from that spot.  Most people initially believe that it is a Photoshop trick done post-processing.  The Lensbaby is a cool lens but it often gets left in the bag because it is unique and you have to be in the mood to shoot with it to do it right.

Mount Tabor: July 15th 2009

We did not make it to Velo on the Volcano as much as we wanted this year.  The course and scenery provides wonderful conditions to play with imagery.  I guess there is always next year.  All of our photos from the evenings race have been posted here.  Click on the jump to see a slideshow of highlights.

Model: Kelsi Marie

Kelsi is a student at Portland State University from Alaska.  The first time we meet her was at a strobist meetup.  Her Model Mayhem profilestates "I'm a very athletic, yet I can pull off the whole girly look."  This got me to thinking of what type of shoot can we do with her that would pull the sporty to girly off.  After a bit of time trying to get our schedules to mesh and coordinating with a makeup artist we were able to shoot with Kelsi. The result is the photo above.  To see other photos of Kelsi click on the jump.

Model: X

Lately, we have met with a lot more people that are getting cautious about having their photo on the Internet. From people being concerned of about how they are represented, people that would prefer not to have their name and face linked, and others that fear facial recognition software finding them. I am not sure what the last group is hiding from but in a day and age when people are not getting into college or getting a job because of things they have on facebook and MySpace we understand their concerns.

I have worked with databases in the financial, auto, entertainment and other industries. Most people don’t realize that there are large amounts of data being collected for harmless and not so harmless reason. What I am trying to say is to be careful who you give information too and if you ever find your photo on our website and don’t want it up, please let us know and we will take it down.
